2001. urtean Luz María Sánchez artistak Euskal Herria zeharkatuz soinu-grabaketa sail zabal bat osatu zuen, ondoren arteleku.net-eko publikarpeta atalean aurkeztu zuena. Proiektu hura orain bi egitasmo berriren hasiera puntu bihurtu da: MAPA eta RE:MAPA.

Lehenak oraindik garapen prozesuan dagoen soinu-mapa interaktibo bat osatzea du xede eta bigarrena aldiz, grabaketa orijinalen eta hauek egin ziren lekuen inguruan hausnarketa gisara ulertu daiteken berriterpretazio saiakera bat da.

Hala bada, orain aurkezten den RE:MAPA sailak, astero soinu-artista berri batek 2001ean egindako grabaketa haien zati bat oinarritzat hartuz euskal herriko sortzaile desberdin baten ber-interpretazioa eskainiko du.

En el año 2001, la artista Luz María Sánchez recorrió el País Vasco recolectando una amplia serie de grabaciones de campo que posteriormente se presentaron en el apartado publicarpeta de arteleku.net. Ese trabajo sirve ahora como base para dos nuevos proyectos: MAPA y RE:MAPA.
El primero, todavía en fase de desarrollo, tiene como objetivo diseñar un mapa sonoro interactivo para la red y la segunda, es un intento de reinterpretación de la mencionada colección, que a su vez puede ser interpretada como reflexión de las grabaciones de campo originales y el contexto en el que fueron realizadas.

Por tanto, esta sección que presentamos llamada RE:MAPA presentará semanalmente una nueva re-interpretación por parte de diferentes creadores tomando como base las grabaciones realizadas en el 2001.

La Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha ha dado a conocer el resultado de una investigación reciente que se ha llevado a cabo en el Laboratorio de Neurobiología Celular de la Facultad de Medicina. Se trata de un estudio experimental sobre la degeneración y posterior reparación del sistema nervioso tras un traumatismo acústico producido por la exposición a sonidos que superan los 100 decibelios. Este estudio, que ha sido realizado junto al Instituto de Neurociencias de Castilla y León, concluye que al poco tiempo de iniciarse el proceso de destrucción neuronal a causa del ruido, se produce un rebrote a partir de las neuronas auditivas sanas, que tratan de reemplazar las conexiones perdidas.

We present the work of new artists each month on the 15th and will include artists from any genre, background or discipline that we consider worthy of attention from from your discerning eyes and ears. As this is not My Space, not everyone who submits gets to be featured on Famous For 15mb.

Welcome to the second edition of Famous For 15mb,
a new space for deserving artistic talent.

We were overwhelmed by the response to last month’s launch and have been in contact with many new artists offering us their work for these prestigious slots. So here, once again, we offer you the cream of all the under-booked and overlooked musical and audiovisual artists from around this small planet.

We have more videos for you this month, among them Iris Piers (a Dutch Berlin-based video-artist who we met when she was on tour with Ljudbilden & Piloten and Dead Texan in Scandinavia last year) and Venezuelan collective Babylon Motorhome and their take on folk-singer Simon Diaz.

As for the music, we have some of our dearest and most challenging additions so far (this is only the second edition so watch out) with Les Aus, Gregg Kowalsky, He Can Jog and several others. El documento audiovisual [UN]COMMON SOUNDS V1.1 producido por la asociación de mismo nombre y formada a su vez por las asociaciones culturalesERTZ(Navarra) y ELECTROGRAPH(Grecia) se presentará por segunda vez en el festival ACTIVATING THE MEDIUM que se celebrará en la ciudad de San Francisco, California.

El proyecto l.o.s.s promueve y apoya el uso del software libre, software musical de código abierto, conjuntamente con las licencias Creative Commons (cc) que aceptan e invitan a compartir.
Ademas de la publicación de un CD recopilatorio que presenta trabajos seleccionados (también disponibles como descarga gratuita), la presencia online del proyecto intenta crear un foco para los artistas que trabajan con software de código abierto, publicando su trabajo a través de licencias CC. Visita la web para recibir mas información sobre cómo contribuir con nuevas aportaciones.
El objetivo del proyecto no es retratar ninguna clase de “sonido específico de código abierto”, pero quiere ofrecer una visión de algunos trabajos interesantes desarrollados por gente que utiliza lo que hay disponible.
El resultado es una compilación increíblemente diversa de artistas conocidos internacionalmente, que abarcan estilos como la electrónica, el paisajismo sonoro, el hip-hop o la electroacústica, entre otros.
Las contribuciones para el CD incluyen trabajos de Nullpointer, Ava, Edge Effect, Jake Harries, Collective Motion, Panayiotis Kokoras, DJ Auto, Chaos Butterfly, slub, Minimal Turntablist Crew y Elektronengehirn.

The l.o.s.s project promotes and supports the use of free, open source music software, in conjunction with Creative Commons (CC) licensing which accepts and encourages sharing.

As well as a CD of curated work (also available for free download), the project’s online presence is intended to become a focal point for artists working with open source software, and releasing their work through CC licenses. Please visit the website for details of how to contribute tracks.

The aim of the project was not to portray any kind of ‘open source’ sound, but to offer an array of some of the interesting work people are creating with what is available. The result is an incredibly diverse compilation of internationally renowned artists, encompassing electronica, soundscapes, hiphop and electro-acoustic amongst other styles.

Contributions for the CD include work by Nullpointer, Ava, Edge Effect, Jake Harries, Collective Motion, Panayiotis Kokoras, DJ Auto, Chaos Butterfly, Slub, Minimal Turntablist Crew and Elektronengehirn.

Even the artwork was produced using open source techniques by Matt Gray (Ava), and the album was mastered at Mirror Image Studios in Minneapolis, again, using the Linux operating system and libre software.

The project is run by the registered charity Access Space, a free media lab based in Sheffield, promoting open source software and using recycled hardware.
